Where did you buy your Akando? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought my Akando directly from Iplehouse website.
It arrived after 3 months.
I prefer to buy directly from doll companies if I can.

Why did you choose Akando?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

The fact that it was something totally new and there is still nothing like the IED body in the market.

What parts of your Akando do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Akando’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

The doll looks huge in the photos but in person it is more than huge, it is massive and maybe a bit too much for my taste. I find it different from the photos but just cause to see in photos and to hold in hands is totally a different thing

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

The face up was original but than I gave him to Cycy to have him repainted, cause he was too much “good guy looking” for my taste.

Where do you get your Akando’s clothes? If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Akando? If not, what do you wish more for? If you make your Akando’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Akando? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?

I bought them directly from Iplehouse and no, there is not a good selection of clothes available for him, in different syles.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I could say I wish the doll taller than 70cm and more slender.

Akando Week- PamSD and Granger

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. Where did you buy your Akando? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought him directly from Iplehouse. I ordered in mid November, he arrived January 26.
It was along time to wait BUT the company was having some in house issues in their art department. They were very behind with orders and I think the unexpected popularity of this new line caught them unprepared.

Why did you choose Akando?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

I started collecting dolls about 10 yrs ago. I collected 16″ fashion dolls. Mature looking models that could wear today’s clothing styles. When I started collecting BJDs, I was drawn to the more mature sculpts. I was also a comic book reader: Xmen, Spiderman, Superman. I have always wished a company would do a super hero body. I could both get hobbies in one!

It was hard not to buy the full set Akando when he first came out, but I learned my lesson with Cocori. “Wait for the basic.” I am glad I waited. I like the Normal Skin tone better than the tan and I had the option to buy without the upper thigh mobility joint which I had glued on my Cocori.

What parts of your Akando do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Akando’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

I didn’t find any surprises from the photos on the site to real life. He’s a very well put together doll. I will say that when you open his box there is no way to prepare for how BIG he is…not tall…BIG. He weighs in at 7 lbs and it takes two hands around his torso to pick him up. I am building muscles just dressing him.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

Granger has a face up that I did myself. I chose to make him the character from the fantasy novel I am writing. He needed to be mature but somehow youthful at the same time since he is approaching his middle age at 150 yrs old. He’s not the first male face up I’ve done but possibly the best. When I painted fashion dolls I was better at men’s faces than women’s. I just love those low male brows.

I make clothing for all sizes bigger than MSD for a living. So 90% of Granger’s wardrobe is made right here in my sewing room. I have a moccasin pattern made for him but I still need to buy shoes from Iplehouse….and jeans. I just don’t make jeans because they are time prohibitive. Fabric is pretty easy to find for him. He’s such a large scale that the shopping is much easier than say for Narae. Like every new body shape he has challenges in pattern making. His enormous arms and the bulk in his chest are two.

I wish for more shoes in a wider variety. True combat boots would rock and cowboy boots.
oh, and knee high English riding boots….hmmm…looks like a theme huh?

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I love his face. The basic head sculpt is so powerful without paint. I am working on two sleeping heads now and a “gentle” head. All of them have the same amazing lips.

There is a definite learning curve for his jointing. Mostly for his elbows and knees. It is important to pull the joint out before bending to get the folding on the joint so he can touch his face. That said, at least he can touch his face. I do think I will wire his arms since his arm posing is limited unless the joint is out. I like his chest joint immensely. Its very nicely fitted and in pictures you can almost pretend its not there at all.
Oh, and did I mention his Butt? wow.

Akando Week- JennyNemesis and Bijan

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Iplehouse, Akando is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: JennyNemesis

Where did you buy your Akando? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought him directly from Iplehouse. Bijan is one of the ‘Pierrot’ LE sets, so I had to jump quick to buy him as soon as he went on sale. But even if I were buying a Basic model, I’d still purchase directly from Iplehouse. I like to give my money & business directly to them, and they are wonderful to deal with.

It took about 3 months for him to arrive. (If you’ve ever bought one of their tan limiteds before, this figure comes as no surprise; they don’t mess around with the quality of their tans.)

Why did you choose Akando?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

Face, skintone, body, posing, all-of-the-above.

It’s the face that’s the most important factor, though. I didn’t think I’d like his face much at first, when all we knew of him were his Pierrot-mask teaser pictures. But as soon as I saw multiple angles of that lovely face, I suddenly knew that, “hey, he is one of my boys after all”. The combination of a heavy manly jawline, high cheekbones, and big soft doe-eyes is a real knockout… it gets me every time.

I also have a weakness for tan-skinned Iplehouse men; their male sculpts always seem to look twice as stunning in tan as they do in NS/WS resin. I don’t know why I’m only capable of resisting normalskin & whiteskin Iplehouse men. But by now, the tans are almost a habit. Bijan is a beautiful new pale-caramel-macchiato shade of resin that they call “Realskin”. (I don’t know how they come up with these names either.)

Also, how about that body.
….
Yeah.

What parts of your Akando do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Akando’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

Nothing… He’s pretty much exactly what they said he’d be. Only more beautiful in real life.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I ordered default faceups on both of his heads. His “Gentle Smile” head (half-dreaming eyes & a smirk) is the one that comes with the dramatic Pierrot clown-makeup. His Basic head (open eyes & no smile) comes with a magnificent, subtle, perfectly-brunette faceup. I adore Iplehouse’s faceup style, so I never even considered painting this one myself.

Any source I can get them! I haven’t shopped around much yet, but already I’ve got some from Iplehouse, some I’ve made myself, and some made by a more-talented friend of mine. I can only sew simple things (a tanktop, some pajama pants), and Iplehouse’s clothes are expensive, so I’m happy to hire out the sewing.

I didn’t have a preexisting character set for Bijan when he got here– so it’s OK that he hasn’t got many clothes yet, and is still finding his own style by trial & error. There hasn’t been too much available that suits my tastes yet, but there’s enough to work with for now. I’m sure Iplehouse (and AnotherSpace 2) are working hard to make enough clothes for him to keep up with their own releases. There’ll be more available later; I’m mostly hoping for a plain black leather biker-jacket, a ribbed tank-top, and a plain V-neck sweater or pullover.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Yes, I’m really impressed with the engineering on this new body type! They’ve outdone themselves. He has a remarkable range of motion that you’d never expect from a musclebound guy– would you believe he can do the splits? Practically yoga.

The only reason I don’t take more standing-pose pictures of Bijan is because I live by myself, & don’t have a spotter to catch him in time if he starts to fall. So I work mostly on the couch. But so far, nobody in the audience has complained about having to look at too many pictures of Bijan lying languidly about on sumptuous cushions, quite often naked.

Akando Week- KlapptNix and Fritz

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Iplehouse, Akando is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: KlapptNix

Where did you buy your Akando? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

Fritz came directly from Iplehouse, he arrived 2 months after my order.

Why did you choose Akando?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

It was his (superhero-)body, his muscles and veins. And his manly face, he looks mature, not like a child.

What parts of your Akando do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Akando’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

I can’t tell any differences.
Though, there is one thing: On the IH pics he has this horrible staring-eyes-expression. I gave him smaller eyes and the problem is fixed.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

It’s default by IH, they did a good job.

I sew the clothes myself. Due to his size it’s easier to make clothing for him than for my smaller dolls. On the other side it’s more difficult to create pants in which he can sit.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Posing, body (with mobility joints), sculpt – everything o.k. But I think he’s a little bit floppy. I have other dolls which are easier to make them stand.

Akando Week- Atomicspacekitty and Viktor

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Iplehouse, Akando is the featured doll of this week.

Where did you buy your Akando? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I actually bought Akando on the secondary market so, once I paid for him, I didn’t have a long wait at all. I didn’t buy him directly through Iplehouse for a couple of reasons: 1) while I liked his promotion pictures, I’m always leery of buying dolls without having seen owners’ pictures first, and 2) I had just bought another doll when he went first went on sale so I couldn’t afford him. Then, once I saw owners’ pictures of Akando, I realized I had missed out. I did a search on the DoA marketplace and just happened to find someone who was selling a fullset Akando Pierrot. It was fate. haha

Why did you choose Akando?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

There are many reasons I chose Akando. First of all, I like that he’s 70cm (around the same height as the majority of my other dolls). I also like the fact that, though very muscular, his proportions are quite realistic. The skin color was another factor. I love the honey-hue of his skintone (what Iplehouse calls “realskin”). Also, his Pierrot face intrigued me and I thought it would be fun to take pictures of it. In addition, as mentioned above, once I saw owners’ pictures of him, saw him with different face-ups and examples of his posing ability, which is amazing considering how muscular he is, I knew I had to add him to my doll family. Oh, and did I mention that he’s muscular? Yeah, on a purely aesthetic level, I could just stare at his muscles all day. His body is beautifully sculpted.

What parts of your Akando do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Akando’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

Overall, I think Iplehouse did a good job in capturing what he looks like in real life. However, I think that the facial sculpt is more versatile than it appears in the company’s photos. Owners’ pictures featuring custom face-ups really opened my eyes to that fact. He’s not just a gentle giant.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

The extremely talented SDink did my Akando Viktor’s face-up and she brought him to life for me. While I liked Iplehouse’s face-up, I wanted something more unique and distinctive. Also, Viktor is a bodyguard for one of my other dolls (Julian, a Soom Spinel, whose character is a rock star) and I thought his default face-up was entirely too gentle and kind. SDink’s amazing face-up gave him the edge and dark good looks I wanted for him.

Unfortunately, my talents aren’t in sewing. I get my clothing for Akando through Iplehouse and Dollovely (PamSD) on DoA. Of course, I wish there were more outlets to get clothing for him, but I’m not sure that will happen as other companies aren’t making comparable dolls in his size. Overall, I believe the selection of clothing is adequate to create a wardrobe with a lot of great staples. But, I’d love to expand his wardrobe a bit with clothing that is a bit more in the Rocker or Biker styles (i.e. leather jackets, chains, leather cuffs, etc.).

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I’m very surprised with his posing ability, especially considering what a big guy he is. However, most of my knowledge of what poses he can do comes from seeing other people’s pictures. I still have yet to experiment much with his posing. His joints have a bit of learning curve and I still have a ways to go until I can coax amazing poses out of Viktor as JennyNemesis (from DoA) has with her Akando Bijan.

His body is an extraordinary work of art—it reminds me of a Michelangelo sculpture. It’s almost a shame to ever clothe it. I think his face, especially his basic head, can be quite expressive as well. Overall, I’m in love with Viktor and consider him one of my favorite dolls. I doubt he’ll be the last EID man to join my doll family.

Bory Week- Kalcia and Madeleine

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Luts, Bory is the featured doll of this week.

Where did you buy your Bory? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

My Bory was gift from my boyfriend on my birthday last year.
I ordered her myself thou. From Luts website
She arrived almost exactly on my birthaday, it took Luts around month to send her out.
I wanted to be sure that it’s purely new. Few months before, I got my Blanchet, real skin normal, and she yellowed very awfully withing few months. I didn’t want the same thing to happen to my Bory, so it had to be new (I keep her in a box :< ).

Why did you choose Bory?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

I chose Bory mainly because of the sweet and sad face mold. I especially loved Luts’ pictures of her in whiteskin. Gorgeous face up! It made my heart beat faster. For me, Bory of all other Kid Delfs is most curious and original. I chose her in whiteskin, mostly because I had normal skin alreay (yellowed badly but still ).

What parts of your Bory do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Bory’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

I didn’t pay attention to check wheter sculpt is different in real size than the one stated on Luts website. But I do think my Bory has slightly more mature look on her face. But I guess that’s face up’s work.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I did the face up myself. It’s my Bory’s 2nd face up (previous was also mine, but I didn’t like it at all).
I wanted her to look natural, sad and mature.
That’s why the eyes are in soft colors, eyebrows in ’sad’ shape. And lips are naturally red. She has also a lot of blush on her chicks. I’m especially fond of lots of blush like that, I have no idea why

Where do you get your Bory’s clothes? If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Bory? If not, what do you wish more for? If you make your Bory’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Bory? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?

I make all my dolls clothing by myself. And usually sell them later on
I’m a seamstress. I have drawers full of different kinds of fabrics and accessories. Choosing material is not a problem. When I have idea for an outfit, I usually know already what kind of fabric would fit that type of the outfit most.
I must say that sewing for little dolls is more complicated than sewing on SDs. Plus Bory is my first MSD. But I think I got used to it already!

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

She poses like a dream!! I love it!

Body type is sweet as well. Some dolls’ companies don’t pay attention to detail and sculpt of arms, calfs, thighs etc. The sculpt is gorgeous!
There is probably one thing I’d change if it was possible. Her arms are extremy long! When she sits, she can’t place both of her palms on the ground next to her body, because she might lift herself up!
It’s annoying sometimes, but I guess I can get used to it.

Bory Week- Trivia and Boston

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Luts, Bory is the featured doll of this week.

Where did you buy your Bory? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought my Bory from the Luts website. I know I could’ve gotten him somewhere else, but I knew Luts had what I wanted, so that cut the searching part of the process! It took exactly five weeks for him to arrive from the time I made the order.

Why did you choose Bory?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

I chose Bory because of the mold. I think he has lovely clean lines and I love how he can have an intelligent and haughty expression. I can’t describe the rest of his appeal; it’s just that personal preference that makes you say, “That is such a lovely doll. I MUST have one!”

What parts of your Bory do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Bory’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

My Bory looks everything like the company’s photos, except for the slight variation in the face up; the eyebrows are slight softer in appearance.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I chose the company’s default face up for my Bory. It was precisely the expression I admired on his mold.

I buy his clothes from Dollmore because of the lower prices. Plus, they have a great selection of MSD-sized casual clothing. I’m pretty satisfied when it comes to casual, but I wish there were more dressy clothing available for MSD sized dolls. (Not designed with a ten year-old in mind)

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I am very happy with my doll’s sculpt!
He is shorter (barely noticeable) than my older Kid Delf Jeong, which kind of thwarted me in the beginning, but I don’t mind now.
He can do his basic poses which, frankly, are all I need. His poses did hold better when he was brand new rather than later, but hot glue sueding made him better than ever.

Bory Week- Botflybaby and Dietre

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Luts, Bory is the featured doll of this week.

Where did you buy your Bory? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I got my bory last December from eluts.com. It only took 16 days before I got a shipping notice, I was really surprised! I chose to buy him from the company because I’m wary of buying dolls second hand, I know that if there was a problem with him then the company could fix it for me.

Why did you choose Bory?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?

I think it was his face, he has this moody, serious expression that I really liked, and he was so cute too!

What parts of your Bory do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Bory’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

He’s pretty much the same as what’s on the site, but cuter in person!

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

Luts did the face up, and its a custom! I didn’t think they were going to do it, because I ordered well after they made their announcement about no longer doing custom faceups. But I took a chance and sent them a photoshop mock up of what I wanted. They responded to me saying they were sorry but they couldn’t do a custom. However! When I got him, he had the faceup I requested! I don’t know if they decided to do it because it wasn’t very different from the default or maybe they were feeling generous because it was around christmas, but I’m SO grateful they did it. It really makes Dietre feel different and special for me.

I got most of his outfits from Luts too, their quality is good, and the clothes fit perfectly. I have a few things from dollmore, but I find that most msd clothing seems to be on the baggy side. Kid delfs are apparently thin compared to other dolls, so pants tend to be loose around the waist. Buying from luts ensures the clothes will fit! I wish there were more victorian and period style clothing for MSDs, most of the stuff for boys is punky and modern, its really hard to find old fashioned clothes for boy dolls. Its annoying because girl dolls have tons of victorian options to choose from!

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Dietre is my best poser! He can do very natural poses, and things that my other dolls just can’t. My ONLY problem with his body is his elbows! Kid delfs have some REALLY ugly elbow joints! Its kind of this like…almost rectangle shaped piece that looks really unnatural and I hate it. But its why he can bend his arms so much better than my other dolls, so I kind of have to deal with it. Besides, with long sleeves no one can see them!

Bory Week- Blackraven066 and her twins

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created and distributed by Luts, Bory is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: Blackraven066

Where did you buy your Bory’s?

I bought both my Bory’s direct from Luts

How long did it take?

I can’t remember exactly it was so long ago haha! But if I remember correctly they both stayed within the waiting time of 35-45 days, which was especially good since Archie was a gift for christmas and he was ordered during Lut’s event period and it’s normal that things slow down quite a lot during that time so it was quite a bit touch and go with whether he’d make it for the big day, but he did!

Why did you choose this purchase method?

I went through Luts because I wanted them both to have default face up’s, and plus there were outfits and wigs I wanted form the site so it meant I could get everything at the same time.

Why did you choose to buy two Bory’s and why Bory’s in particular?(Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on.)

Well, in the beginning I had only intended to have one Bory. I’d instantly fallen in love with the Bory mold when Luts had first released him, I pined over him for half a year while I saved up, but my mum surprised me by saying he’d be my christmas gift!
I never had plans of having twins, but I wanted to get an Msd sized girl since I loved some of the dresses you could get in that size, but there were no girls that I fell in love with as much as the Bory mold, and it was then that I thought it would be a good idea to have twins!
At the time Luts didn’t have the option of having a Bory girl, so I set about making plans of doing a little bit of body swapping to get the girl I wanted and just when I was about to go through with my plans they announced they were releasing a female version. So I thought it was pretty much fate that I was to have her!

What parts of your Bory’s do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Bory’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

The one thing that struck me when I first got Archie was how tiny he was, I’d only ever been around Sd’s and he was my first Msd. I really loved how portable he was compared to the bigger dolls.
I think that the official pictures Luts have don’t really show how much expression the doll has. Just by changing the face up or tilting the head in certain ways changes the expression the doll has greatly!
I also think that the photo’s don’t show you how well the doll’s pose, especially the boy’s.
Apart from that everything was pretty much the same.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I chose to have Lut’s do the face up’s. I’ve got one doll that they painted previously for me and her face up was gorgeous! I’m really amazed by the tiny little details they paint on, like the eyelashes. They must have a super steady hand to get them so thin and perfect. So it was without a doubt that they’d be doing the face up’s for any other dolls I got from them.

Oh! Something I forgot to add on, was that the Bory mold is very versatile!
Lut’s did two completely different face up’s on my pair and when you look at them both they look very different from each other and could quite easily be different mold’s unless you look at them side by side.
Evie’s face up gives her a sad/worried look because of her eyebrows, and Archie normally looks more angry/serious because of his.
The difference in face up’s really helps with showing the difference in their personalities I’ve given them ^^

Where do you get your Bory’s clothes?

It varies, all of the dresses Evie wears are made by my mum. I’m lucky by being able to show her a picture of what I want and she’ll make it for me. Archie’s clothes mostly come from Lut’s or item’s I’ve bought from other doll owner’s who’ve made clothing.

If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Bory?

There are a huge selection of clothing for that size and you can get some gorgeous outfits for them. These days though I do have to say I try to make before I buy because it means I can make them exactly as I want and it saves my pennies haha!

If not, what do you wish more for?

I’d love to see more period clothing, like Victorian. I think the girls from that period look gorgeous and I’d love a matching period outfit for my pair!

If you make your Bory’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Bory? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?

I can’t say for sure how easy or difficult it is to make clothes for this size since I sit and watch while my mum sews. My mum has said though that it is a little fiddly sewing things like arm holes on the sewing machine.
All the fabric’s we’ve used so far we’ve scavenged from old items of clothing! One of Evie’s dresses for example was made out of one of my mum’s tops that she kindly donated.
The only time we’ve found it a little tricky to get fabrics is when it’s been floral or had a pattern on it. I’m pretty fussy when it comes to things being in scale to the dolls and it’s been a little hard to find floral patterns that were small enough to work in scale with the doll since most are made to work with human size. Anything thats just a flat colour is very easy to get hold of.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I’m extremely happy with the way the doll poses! Especially the boy body. Archie’s gotten quite a name for himself in my local meet up’s I go to because of his crazy posing skills. He’s able to stand on one leg, crouch, lunge, head stand etc. I’ve gotten a great deal of enjoyment out of seeing what poses he can hold.
The girl body however, isn’t as great at posing, which I think is due to the extra rotating thigh joint she has, but I have recently tightened her elastic which has done wonders, and I think sueding her legs would improve her even more.
I do sometimes wish that the knees were double jointed since they only did the elbows which I thought was a little odd.
I’m really happy with the size of the doll, they’re small enough to be able to manage when posing and I find them a lot more fun to take out and about then the bigger versions because they’re lighter and can happily ride in my bag.

Where did you buy your Bory? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I got my Bory from Luts webshop. As I asked for the make up, so it took about 2 months to get my home. It is the easiest and most safe way as you got your doll from their company’s web shop.

Why did you choose Bory?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

The face-up and face mode are so cute and just when I saw him at first time, I fall in love with him. Also, the body is good!

What parts of your Bory do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Bory’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

I haven’t order the same wig and outfit shows on the web togother, but I believe the face-up is the same. But as he is the first doll to me, I just feel he looks smaller then I imaged.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

Where do you get your Bory’s clothes? If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Bory? If not, what do you wish more for? If you make your Bory’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Bory? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?

I got clothes from DOD, Luts, HZ, h.NAOTO, Volks, Dollheart, etc. As there are not much chose for msd dolls, and most clothes are made for girls, boys’ clothes are not easy to find. Sometimes I make clothes myself or ask people to make for him. Size is not the big problem, but style is.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Yeah, I love the body very much. The body is just the best size I thought. Compare with other doll bodies, SD msd bodies are a bit too fat, minfee are too slim. The joint is good, but maybe if they can double-jointed the knee, that would be even better.

Narae 43 cm Week – Tanya Interview

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created by Narin Creative and distributed by Dollfair, Narae 43 cm is the featured doll of this week.

Where did you buy your Narae? How long did it take?
- I bought my Narae back in 2006 from Dollfair. Narae took 5 weeks to arrive and Narin took 4 weeks after ordered.

Why did you choose Narae?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

- I ordered Narin first because at the time the Narin/Narae classic faces were re-released again and I always love them. After I received my Narin, I wanted him to have a companion so I ordered Narae. I think they look lovely together. My decision to choose them was mainly because of their delicate facial features, especially Narin who looks slightly Asian and really cute. I really love the shape of his eyes.

What parts of your Narae do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Narae’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)
- I think they look exactly like the company photos, even more beautiful in person. Their resin glows and felt smooth to the touch. Their faces are small and delicate. I was pretty much in awe. I was fascinated by Narae so much that she inspired me to try making clothes.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?
- Originally both of them have custom face-up by Korean artist Kim Kyu Yun but I have removed them early this year due to the color faded and now they have new face-up by me. Kim Kyu Yun has a unique soft natural painting style that I like very much and so I choose her to paint them when I first purchased both Narin/Narae.

Where do you get your Narae’s clothes? If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Narae? If not, what do you wish more for? If you make your Narae’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Narae? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?
- At first I bought clothes from Bliss/Softly She Walks collection and I was very pleased with them. The clothes were lovely and nicely made. But I took a lot of pictures and was always looking for buying new clothes. Eventually the fun budget began to get low so I decided to try my hand at sewing. It was horrible at first but I got better.

The materials are not hard to find at all if you don’t need anything too fancy. Most of the material you can find at your local fabric/craft store. Regarding difficulty, the first few months of trying to make sense of how to put just a simple t-shirt together was a nightmare because I didn’t have even the basic knowledge of sewing. My friends laughed when I told them I bought a sewing machine. I looked at how human clothes were put together and tried to make a mini version of it. Eventually I got the hang of it but with many injured fingers.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt? (For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)
- Definitely happy. I think Narin/Narae are one of the mini size dolls that pose extremely well and simply natural. Sometimes my other dolls fall down when posing for photograph but that rarely happen with Narin/Narae.

Where did you buy your Narae? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

-I got her at www.dollfair.com/. The wait was longer than a typical doll company takes, but I don’t remember exactly how long. I didn’t know where else to buy Naraes, so that’s where I went (I was in such in impulse mode I totally forgot about second hand!)

Why did you choose Narae?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

-My Narae was a total impulse buy, actually. I’ve always thought Naraes were really nice, and I loved the tan skin, so one day when I was bored and had paypal money I just kind of… bought her. I’m so glad I did, she’s one of my favorites.

What parts of your Narae do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Narae’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

-The only difference I can really see is a good one. All of the company photos of her seem so emotionless and blah to me… in real life, though, she’s the total opposite. I think her faceup might have a big part in that, though.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

-Chienism! I usually look for people doing free faceups to paint my doll (I’m kind of cheap :’D), and after searching for a while in the marketplace trying to find someone, I found her. Her pictures in the thread looked amazing, so I wanted her to do it. She did an –amazing- job, and she’s my favorite faceup artist

-I buy them or I make them, depending on what I’m looking for. I never have any trouble finding any clothes when I want to buy them. I love cheerydollusa.com/index.html, they’re expensive, but totally worth it. When I do make clothes for her myself, It’s hard to find decent material, but only because I live in the middle of no where and don’t have a Joannes close by. I have to use walmart. After I find the material, though, it’s easy.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

-After having a Unoa and MNF A lines, I wish her joints had more range. That said, I think she has the most range in her joints I’ve ever seen for a doll with ‘normal’ joints.

Narae 43 cm Week – wildefae and Aiden Interview

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created by Narin Creative and distributed by Dollfair, Narae 43 cm is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: wildfae

Where did you buy your Narae? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought Aiden from dollfair.com. I had stumbled across Narindoll and Dollfair while looking at various dolls, saving up for my first one, and was just absolutely enchanted by the Narae. I was sure I wanted to purchase from a company and not second-hand because I felt it was more secure, and Dollfair is (as far as I know) the only online dealer for Narindoll; plus they’re extremely easy to navigate and convenient.

I ordered Aiden on December 24th of 2007, so a little bit over a year ago now. She arrived on April 18th, 2008. Whooo, long waiting time for us all! That was the first Narindoll batch with the new knee structure, and happened to coincide with a french resin shortage and a backlog of Christmas orders. Normal waiting times aren’t that long.

Nevertheless, it was incredibly worth it. I was terrified that I’d get her and be disappointed because it took so long…but instead I think I appreciate her all the more. And Catrina from Dollfair was in touch with us all the entire time, posting regularly on DOA.

Why did you choose Narae?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

As I mentioned I was really enchanted by Narae from the beginning. I think the biggest part of the decision for me was the fact that all Naraes look different to me. Each and every doll, despite the fact that there are only a few faces to choose from, has such a unique personality. I also really like realistic and individual sculpts and I think Narindoll does a great job with that.

What parts of your Narae do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Narae’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

I think the stock photos on the website don’t do a good job of portraying the wonderful glow french resin has to it. Of all my dolls, Aiden always looks the most real to me in photographs, and I think that’s partially because of the translucence of her resin, it catches the light and has a very real texture.

I think overall they’re much more detailed in real life. Even nearly a year into owning her, I still catch myself going, “look at the lines on her hands!” or “look at her collarbones”, which aren’t necessary to a functional doll but really beautiful and cute.

The one other thing I didn’t expect was the variety of expression! The slightly parted lips look closed from one angle, open from another, and can look happy or sad, it’s really great and sometimes leads to unexpected photographs.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

The Narindoll team did the faceup. They have a list of pictures to choose from, however I liked the eyes off one and the lips off another (I wanted a more neutral lip and smoky eyes, for a sort of punky, mature look). I was nervous that Aiden wouldn’t come to me looking “right” but in fact they interpreted this wish better than I expected!

I don’t make clothes, but I’m thrilled with the flexibility available to Narae. Because she can wear Friends To Be Made and Teen Trends clothing with little alteration, and fits Unoa clothing, she’s my least expensive doll to outfit!

I do find that there’s a lot of really girly and/or young-looking clothing for dolls this size, and not as much punk and/or steampunk clothing as there is for bigger dolls, at least not without really hitting high price ranges. That’d be nice to see more of, reasonably priced punk clothing for Narae.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I love her abilities to pose! A lot of people had trouble with the “new” invisibly-strung knees, but I haven’t. She stands really well without much effort and her joints still work perfectly. And she’s supposed to be tiny, so that’s no problem

I think my main problem with the body are the hands – one of her hands is really stiff looking and it’s kind of odd looking in photographs, like she’s saluting or karate-chopping. I’d prefer it was relaxed like the other. Honestly, that’s my only issue!

- Where did you buy your Narae? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought her from Dollfair in 2006. She was ordered in early may and I received her in mid july. I had considered getting her from Dollmore who was also selling Narin dolls back then, but I thought the transaction would be easier with Dollfair, since they can speak French. Having no bjd experience what so ever, I was very anxious at the idea of making such a purchase, so communication mattered even more than it still does. It was very easy to place the order: the faceplate I wanted, the skin tone, the details about the face up… At that time, for the orders updates, the seller communicated a lot through the Den of Angels forum. I didn’t receive any e-mail notifying me of the shipment. I just saw my name among the list of orders ready to go on Dollfair’s home page.

- Why did you choose Narae?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

I really didn’t know much about bjds and I was just googling for resin dolls when I found this picture (i hope a link is alright). It is this very faceplate, this sculpt, with its downcast look and its pinky white resin that made me fall for her. She was “the one”, the perfect doll to impersonate the girl I had had in mind for a long time. Later on I searched for more info about Narae and got bitten even harder …

- What parts of your Narae do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Narae’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

When I was finally able to look at her from every angle I don’t think I found any real difference. It took me several months to be able to afford her and that allowed me to gather a lot of info, to go through many photographs, including ones that were not “official”. Having looked at many owners’ pictures of their dolls, I wasn’t disappointed when seeing mine in my everyday environment, which has nothing to do with the studio images companies use. I actually thought: “you’re even more beautiful than I thought!”.
The way the french resin seems to glow is not photographed very often. So that was a very nice surprise for me. Unfortunately, there was another surprise with the resin which was not that great… It’s the speed at which it yellowed. I knew it could happen but not so fast. I always kept her away from light, didn’t photograph her often and, still, after perhaps 5 months, she had already lost the pinkish hue and had become darker, yellower. Matte urethane resin was not yet an option when I bought her and I don’t think there was even the UV additive for the french resin. Nearly 3 years later, it can be sad to look at her. Her resin is yellow even in places that were never exposed at all. I still enjoy having Lucette though, and I can still photograph her. Her case is perhaps an exception, but I would definitely opt for the urethane if bought another Narin doll!

- Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

The Narin team did it. At that time, there wasn’t any gallery showing the different styles of face up available. I wouldn’t say mine was a real custom. I asked for it to be as close to the one of the faceplate I mentioned above. This face up was already perfect for the girl I had in mind. It was clear, simple, as sensual and realistic as the whole doll herself. I knew I wouldn’t get tired of it. I just specified that the eyebrows should be a good match for black hair. The lips turned out a little bit darker but I love them and colors on screen are often slightly different.

- Where do you get your Narae’s clothes? If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Narae? If not, what do you wish more for? If you make your Narae’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Narae? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?

I don’t know all the addresses available but I’d tend to say that there are not enough. It’s mostly dresses and pants that i’d like to find more easily. I may sound snob but the clothes I prefer are handmade which often means rather pricey. I sometimes buy them second-hand on the market of DOA. It takes time to go through all the threads but it can be worth it. It’s nice to find Mio clothes that are not available anymore, occasionally for a lower cost. I’ve placed several orders at Her Delicate Strength. The style is lovely and very easy to mix and match. I’d love to order from Atelier Momoni one day… I also keep an eye on Etsy because, even though I haven’t bought anything for my doll there yet, I sometimes see things I could be interested in.
I only ever did one skirt for Lucette. I used vintage lace that I easily found on Ebay. I can’t say if it is harder to sew for Naraes because sewing always is for me! I’ve never found many clothes patterns to help me either. I’d like to try the ones meant for Unoas that you can find in some Doll Coordinate Recipe books.
As for the shoes, there are even less options. Thankfully mini fée shoes and boots are perfect for my tastes and Leeke ones are also very pretty. I just wish they were easier to get brand new. It’s a pity to always have to pay for EMS or to join a group order… The second hand market is really very often the right place for Lucette to improve her garde robe.

- Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

For me, Narae’s posing is really good. It would be great for her to be able to sit straight. The hips don’t allow it and she always leans a little backwards. But all in all it’s by far one of the most poseable dolls I have (the resin family grew since Lucette’s arrival).
The body is simply beautiful. It has a perfect natural ratio. The curvy legs are not too long. The bust is reasonably sized. Same with the head. Narae really represents the perfect balance for me. I’m delighted with the delicate sculpt! Thanks to the 2/3 opened eyes, Lucette has the exact range of expressions I was wishing for. I was a bit worried the opened mouth may make her look slightly… empty headed. But it doesn’t. I’d even say that from one profile she seems to be smiling and from the other she seems rather melancholic. This combined with her eyes looking down she always seems to be thinking about something… But that might be my imagination running wild…

Narae 43 cm Week – dnamight and Twiggy Interview

These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Created by Narin Creative and distributed by Dollfair, Narae 43 cm is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: dnamight

Where did you buy your Narae? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?
I bought Twiggy from Dollfair. I was lucky. It took me around less than 3 weeks because they had some in stock. I chose this purchase method because dollfair is the only one at the moment which offers narae internationally.

Why did you choose Narae?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

Narae just struck me as aesthetically beautiful craft. I absolutely love the skintone and facial structure.

What parts of your Narae do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Narae’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

The color looks richer in real life compared to the photo. It’s gorgeous

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I did the face up for Twiggy myself because I’m quite a fussy owner. While doing the face up, I had in mind a playful yet cool character.

I’ve purchased my narae clothes from Dollmore. Sometimes I do wish I can sew because there is not really much selection of clothes for narae at the moment. I wanted her character to be more on the modern indie rock chick kind but it’s not that easy to find clothes to fit that character. For now Twiggy is just sporting a cute dress until I can buy her new ones

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)
I love the way the body poses however it would be great if narindolls would consider making double jointed naraes in the future Other than that I think they are perfect.

Chiwoo Week – Alicechan & Jaden Interview

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Sculpted by Cerberus Project and distributed by Luts, Chiwoo is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: Alicechan

A super cool doll to end the first doll of the week articles on dollicio.us. The last interview of Chiwoo week is Alicechan and Jaden!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I went ahead and purchased him through Luts. I bought the package that comes with a normal eyed head and a sleeping head. I purchased him at the start of Luts summer of 07 event(late June I believe?) and he finally arrived in August. I had to buy him using wire transfer, which was in a way scary. (it was my first time using wire transfer, and it took a couple of days for the money to clear. ) I chose to buy directly from Luts because I wasn’t sure if I could find one easily elsewhere.

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

I actually saw many Chiwoos browsing Den of Angels and the web that I had to get one. I really love the sculpt. He has a very cute face, and smile.

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

He has a gap between his lips. I over looked that when I was browsing photos of him. It’s cute though so I don’t mind. Other than that he looks like company photos.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

Jadon’s face-up was done by the amazing, CherryStreet~Sera. I also asked her to open his eyes and sand his cheeks, nose, and lips so he would look more similar to his brother.

Where do you get your Chiwoo’s clothes? If bought, are you happy with the selection available for your Chiwoo? If not, what do you wish more for? If you make your Chiwoo’s clothes yourself, is it easy to find material to make clothes for your Chiwoo? Is it difficult or easy to make clothes for a doll this size?

I bought most of my clothes off ebay for him. The good thing about his size is that it’s pretty close to most 60 cm dolls so he is able to take on different styles easily. Not to mention he can share clothes with the rest of my doll family. I wouldn’t know about making clothes, but he’s a standard size I’m sure one can find patterns on the internet for it easily.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Honestly he’s not that great at posing but meh, that can be fixed up using wiring and such. I do wish he had more range in the way he bends his arms and legs. I also wish his stomach had an extra joint for better poses too.

First up for today’s double feature is Umi-chan and Milán!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought Milán from Luts because my sister had bought her Lishe from there a year before I got Milán. At the time we had little experience in the hobby so buying from Luts seemed like the only way for us to get BJDs. Also, I didn’t want a second hand doll, and our previous transaction with Luts was a very pleasant one. When my sister ordered her Lishe it only took nine days for her to ship out, so I thought that Milán would arrive quickly. Unfortunately things at Luts had changed and it took him a whole month to come home, and that killed me! I wanted him to get to me so bad, but the wait was worth it because I couldn’t be happier with my first boy!

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

The reason I choose him was because I fell in love with him at first sight! I remember going on the Luts website and loving all the pictures he was in. El and the others were nice, but for me Chiwoo was the one that really got to me.

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

I believe the biggest difference between the Luts images and the real doll is that in person the doll is a lot more beautiful! The Luts pictures don’t do him any justice, especially the really old ones that were really overexposed. Chiwoo has a very lovely nose, but in the Luts pictures you can barely see it.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

His face up was a custom face-up done by Luts. To be honest, I think Luts failed completely at doing his face-up. I had asked for different type of eyebrows and colors for his face-up, but Luts did whatever they wanted in the end. It used to make me really upset because he wasn’t how I had imagined him. I was really annoyed at his eyebrows especially since they were not the color I specified and were not the shape I had wanted. Over a period of time I got over all of that and now I think he looks fine the way he is. In the past, I have thought about sending him off to a face-up artist to be painted like my original vision of Milán, but I don’t think I would do that anymore since his Luts face-up is what ultimately makes him be himself. Milán the character has evolved ever since he was created and part of that has to do with his Luts face-up, so I don’t think it’s necessary to change it, nor would I want to anyways.

At the beginning clothing was an issue. The first thing I bought him was a pair of jeans from Musedoll, and the poor guy didn’t have a shirt because there wasn’t a decent boy shirt in stock at the time. I ended up buying him some boots and a belt to go with the pants, but no shirt. Poor Milán ended up wearing a sock for as a shirt; it was either that or nothing at all. At the time I was not happy with the selection of clothes out there since there wasn’t very many, but now it’s a lot better. My sister had to learn how to sew to make clothes for our children so Milán mostly gets homemade clothes. Milán’s not that picky with clothes so he’s okay with wearing a simple black t-shirt. Although I’m still hoping to get him a military style jacket which was always what I pictured him wearing. I do wish there was a lot more selection though because I don’t like the styles that some companies make.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I’m happy with everything about this boy. I don’t really care too much about posing, to me it’s more important for the body to be nicely sculpted and I think the CP boy body is beautiful. I personally love the one piece torso. I think he poses well and I don’t think he needs to do more than what he’s able to do. I think Chiwoo is perfect the way he is.

Chiwoo Week – Missiee & Ahco Interview

Today’s second feature for our double feature is Missiee and Ahco! Check back again tomorrow for tomorrow’s double feature!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought him from CP’s website, it took about a month and a week? I choosed this purchase method because I didn’t know other ways to buy dolls before.

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

Actually I wanted to buy both Chiwoo and EL that time, but I really love his elf ears!! And… I have never seen a doll like him, looked tender but with a sword in his hand, so I made a very quick decision XD. I totally became a sucker for his charm.

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

The skin tone. Chiwoo is my second doll, Homme Ducan (DOD) is my first one. No one told me there is such a big difference in the skin tones between different companies. When I opened his box, I was shocked by this yellow boy. But now I understand Chiwoo is not the abnormal one, Ducan is.
Other things are just same as CP’s photos.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I did it. Ahco has a sleeping mode head, i opened his eyes by myself. Though I like his original character very much, but I finally found that he should be my own Chiwoo, my one-off Ahco. I actually did his make up twice, after I finished in the first time, I got exactly what I want, then I tried once more to do it better.

I bought his clothes from my friend War and Yahoo Japan. War has only 1/4 size dolls, so I gave her all the measurements she needed. Not surprised, that outfit fits him well~ Instead of CP’s delf body, I changed Ahco a SD13 long leg body, so it’s kind of easy to buy outfits for him cause SD13 is a common size in Yahoo Japan.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

As I said, I changed Ahco’s body. I don’t want to say delf boy body makes me unhappy, but it really does. He could hardly stand without a support before, his legs always flipped up. I tried several ways to fix this problem but failed (like added self standing parts, tightened the elastic string and so on), it made me very sad. I hope CP have improved its joints on their new version of delf body, it looks awesome in the photos~!

Chiwoo Week – Katie_Raven & Sitri Interview

Weekend Double Feature! An extra special Doll of the Week to celebrate the beginning of Doll of the week! First up for today is Katie_Raven and Sitri!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I got him from Luts and I seem to remember he arrived really quickly – maybe 2 weeks or so. I got him from there because I really wanted to mod the sleeping head and they don’t come up for sale on DOA very often.

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

He was one of the first dolls I considered buying when I first got into the hobby, but for some reason I didn’t actually buy him until a lot later. He was intended to be one particular character I had in mind, but it didn’t work out so I devised a new one because I wanted to keep him.

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

He was pretty much what I expected when he arrived, but I modded him to have open eyes, nose job and slightly sanded cheeks. I had some trouble fitting the head to the type II body because it (the head) was either warped or miscast. I had to do some sanding inside the neck socket to fix it.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

The faceup is by me. I used a lot of earthy tones because originally I was going to tan him with rit but wimped out.

I got his main outfit from ebay – I don’t think the seller still trades. It’s pretty easy to find stuff for Sitri because he’s a bit more goth than my other dolls. Lots of goth stuff about in this size!

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

I’m perfectly happy with his head sculpt. I’m not a massive fan of Luts floppy/kicky posing, but Sitri ended up being strung well (by Luts) so his posing is quite good. I kind of wish the body was more mature and leaner, but it’s quite hard to match Luts normal skin.

Chiwoo Week – byke stegosaurs & Macabee Addams Interview

Doll of the Week is a weekly published collection of articles interviewing owners of the mold of the week. These articles are intended for introducing people to the versatility of the weekly doll molds and helping people be more knowledgeable about a possible future purchase. Sculpted by Cerberus Project and distributed by Luts, Chiwoo is the featured doll of this week.

Photos by: byke stegosaurs

Featured owner and doll of today is byke stegosaurs and Macabee Addams!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I technically didn’t “buy” my Chiwoo. I traded a previous doll of mine for Macabee on the Den of Angels’ Marketplace. My partner in the trade was very easy to work with and I received my boy within a week of shipping. I usually like to buy dolls new, but I chose dealing on the marketplace and trading because the other person was looking for the exact doll I was putting up for a trade. It was a win-win situation and I didn’t have to go through the tortuous brand-new-doll wait time.

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

Chiwoo is such a boyish mold with a unique charm. I prefer normal skinned dolls, so it was obvious I’d get a NS Chiwoo. I adore Cerberus Project molds and they’re aesthetics for the Delf body. My Chiwoo is a Type 1, so he doesn’t have double joints or anything. Even with those posing disadvantages I love him. What drew me to his face mold was his innocence. He gave off a truly boy-next-door vibe and that was spot on for Macabee.

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

There isn’t a huge difference between company photos and what I have in real life. Granted, Chiwoo’s eyes are big, a lot bigger than I was expecting. However, I’ve found that the size of the eyes can be enhanced or diminished with a faceup change. When looking at company photos, most of the pictures of Chiwoo seemed redundant. I was afraid he would be a one-shot-wonder but I was highly mistaken.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

Not that I don’t appreciate a company default face up, they rarely suite my personal aesthetic tastes. I do all of my own face ups. This helps me bond more with the doll and get a better feel for the character. Even though Macabee is the sweet boy, he’s often a drama king and full of teen angst. I chose a more alternative and darker face up for him rather than the run-of-the-mill natural face. No “emo kid” can be seen with out his racoon eyes, haha.

That’s what I love about this hobby; because of these dolls’ size you can incorporate your own talents to make them truly original. Nearly 99% of Macabee’s clothes are sewn by me. Rarely can I find clothing that fits his personality because he doesn’t wear suits, ridiculous amounts of chains, “gothic” apparel and polos just aren’t his style. To make his clothes I recycle my own clothes that I don’t wear anymore. When needed, I’ll go down to my favorite fabric store. More often than not, I come out a happy camper. Where you run into trouble with fabric is when the prints are not proportionate to the size of the doll. Construction-wise, Macabee’s not too small or too big so I find it fairly easy to make cltohes for him.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Overall, I’m happy with Chiwoo. I do wish I had the luxury of having double joints for a better range of poses. I like his size, but sometimes I do wish he was a little taller, maybe around 65cm or so. I really like Chiwoo’s mouth because he can either look happy or sad, or completely nonchalant. The only thing I have an issue with are his eyes, but I guess if you find the right person it’s an easy fix. I’m not very fond of huge eyes in dolls, so that’s usually where I come up trying to play with his face up to mask the fact he has huge peepers. He’s a great mold and I’m not really sure why more people don’t have him. He’s capable of so many looks and personalities.

Chiwoo Week – LexehAnn & Gabriel Interview

Featured owner and doll of today is LexehAnn and Gabriel!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

-Eluts. Which was stupid, because I could have gotten him much cheaper second hand. To be honest, I have no idea why I did that! The wait was your typical 4-5 week wait.

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)
-I chose the Chiwoo I have now because I’ve had a chiwoo before, and regretted selling him. The first time, I chose him because he’s just so cute!

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)
-Nothing really. Actually, my Chiwoo is scarily similar to the company one, since the wigs are the same style.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

-Chienism again. I had a luts custom on my first chiwoo, and since they don’t offer that anymore, I needed to commission someone. Chien’s my favorite faceup artist, so I sent him to her. Again, she did an amazing job!

-I’m a horrible doll owner… he only has one outfit! I bought his jeans with a luts credit I had, and I made his shirt. There are loads of options if I want to buy him clothes. Making clothes for him is ever easier than my Narae, since I’m working with something much bigger. The material is the only problem, because of my location.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)
-I wish luts had the option to purchase a Type 3 body when I bought him. His elbow joints don’t move more than 90 degrees without popping them out. It’s ok, though; the CP boy bodies are really beautiful, so it makes up for lack of poseability. I also thought his nose was way too pointy, so I got it sanded down by GTK to look cuter. He’s perfect now!

Chiwoo Week – ClockWorkAngel & Cotton Interview

Sculpted by Cerberus Project and distributed by Luts, Chiwoo is the featured doll of this week.

Featured owner and doll of today is ClockWorkAngel and Cotton!

Where did you buy your Chiwoo? How long did it take? Why did you choose this purchase method?

I bought my Chiwoo directly from the Luts website, because he was an Limited Elf version. He took about 4 weeks to arrive home.

Why did you choose Chiwoo?(What factored in your decision to choose it? Like was it it’s skintone, body, posing, and so on?)

Well, that’s a funny story actually.. Back then I was already into making one of a kind fullsets and selling them on Ebay, so I thought that a Limited Elf version Luts doll would be a good investment just for that purpose. I never even looked at the Chiwoo sculpt before, let alone swoon over him for ages. When I received the box, I even set it aside for like, 2 days before even opening it. But when I finally did… and I saw his sweet face, I was sold and in love! I immediately had the urge to paint him, which only took me 3 hours to finish, and I realized that a dolly that gave me such inspiration shouldn’t go anywhere. He whispered his name to me before the paint was even dry, and he’s been my favorite ever since.

What parts of your Chiwoo do you find different from the company’s photo’s/information on Chiwoo’s?(For example, do it’s eyes seem bigger in real life than the photos, is it’s sculpt more dimensional in real life than the photos, is it taller than the height stated by the company, and so on.)

Well, as I said earlier, I only ever glanced at the website photo’s, which I didn’t like very much. So I must say the biggest difference was that the website photo’s didn’t show his potential.

Who did the face up? If custom, why did you choose this face up?

I did the face-up myself, because I just had to. ^___^ I chose a bit more edgy style because the bland and characterless face-up on the website really bugged me.Luts does fabulous face-ups, no doubt about it, but I just like a bit more ‘decorum’ if you will.

The first outfit I bought him was a lovely black leather outfit by Dollheart. So superb! But as time went by Cotton’s bubbly character was demanding bright colors, so I started making outfits for him myself. I think there are lots of great clothing companies out there, but there’s a bit of lacking in Fruit/Decora style clothing. I think larger dolls are easier to make clothing for. The smaller the more difficult, because scale of lace and such gets more out of proportion on smaller size dolls. I find materials for doll clothes at $1 stores. Most of the time I just buy cheap childrens clothing to make a dolly outfit out of, because they have such cute prints.

Are you happy with the posing/body/sculpt?(For example, do you wish the doll was taller, more range in joint movements, a smile, and so on.)

Cotton came to me with a type 2 Luts body, and it started to bug me that he couldn’t touch his face and such, so when the LuWen doll was launced with the type 3 body, I didn’t hesitate and ordered one right away. I sold Cotton’s old body, and the two LuWen heads, so it ended up costing me nothing extra. ^.^ Now my sweety can do much more poses, and I am thrilled with that! (I wish Luts would come out with a type 3 girl body, so I could order a Soony. I have always wanted a Soony, but I know I will be bugged by the lack in movement range of the type 2 body..) As for a smile, Cotton has one! A very sly one. I think it’s got very much to do with how you paint them. You can make almost any doll look like he/she’s smiling. All in all, I am so pleased with my Chiwoo. No matter how many dolls I will have in the future, he will always be my baby.
